During the 2018-19 school year, LHSD will offer alternative methods of instruction days for all K - 12th grade students.

2018-19 Lake Hamilton School District AMI Plan

What is an Alternative Methods of Instruction Day? AMI days are intended to extend learning even when there is an exceptional event or inclement weather day that would not allow school to be in session. The LHSD submitted and received approval to use up to 5 AMI days. These days would be used for the first 5 school days missed.

How does this work? If the LHSD closes school, the normal avenues of communication will take place regarding school closing. As soon as the decision to close is made, the district will post on social media, website home page, TV stations, and local radio stations. If the decision to close is made the night prior (before 8:30 p.m.), an automated phone call will be sent out that night. If the decision to close is made after 8:30 p.m., the phone call will be sent at 6:00 a.m.

What is expected of my student during an AMI day? Each student will receive assignments, resources, and instructions from their teacher(s). Students have up to 5 days following an AMI day to submit their completed work. As long as the students submit their completed work within 5 days following the AMI day, the student will be counted present for the approved AMI day.

Who do I contact with AMI day questions? Contact your school office with any questions or visit the district website for more information on AMI days. The entire AMI plan is located on the district website.

Traditionally, missed days have been added to the school year and have proven to be very ineffective. The AMI days will alleviate, or at least minimize, student learning loss before required testing in the spring.
